Payday lending in North Carolina is in the spotlight this week, but not in the Senate Commerce Committee, where a bill explicitly legalizing payday lending has been sitting quietly while lobbyists wring it out behind the scenes.

This round of the payday argument is scheduled for an airing tonight on "60 Minutes Wednesday."

State Attorney General Roy Cooper's office sent word that he had been interviewed. A segment preview on the CBS Web site quotes Willie Green, the voice of payday lenders in North Carolina; Jim Blaine, president of the State Employees' Credit Union; and two North Carolina residents who took out payday loans but wish they hadn't.
